Up on Down's

Up on Downs is the leading support and service provider for children with Down's Syndrome and their families, in Hertfordshire.  We are a parent run charity, now in our 12th year, and we currently support over 250 families in all areas of Herts.

We are member of the national Down's Syndrome Association and we work closely with them to share resources and information with families who are loving and supporting children and young people with Down’s Syndrome in Hertfordshire.

Up on Down’s take great pride in the fact that we are able to support our members from the very beginning of their journey. We are able to offer one to one support to new parents and a termly welcome meeting in Watford.  Our Early Development group provides an opportunity to discuss play and development activities to help young children make the best start from an early age.

Importantly, we also support our children by arranging opportunities for all the family to socialise and have fun while building their support and friendship network.  We offer regular subsidised activities, parties and days out at farms, theme parks, etc. We are always looking for new ideas/venues to try so please let us know if you have any recommendations.  As out children grow more independent, we also have a new Youth Club for teenagers+.

Up on Down’s also works with other agencies to increase awareness of Down’s Syndrome and improve the opportunities available them. We can visit schools and have informative resources which can be used by members if they wish to present to staff, parents or children of all ages, to increase awareness of  Down's Syndrome and dispel a few myths  too. Our parent carer learning events and weekly speech therapy classes provide specialist support and guidance and we distribute a regular newsletter to keep families informed of developments and opportunities in Hertfordshire and in the world of Down’s Syndrome.

We are an inclusive organisation and we welcome children and young people with Down’s Syndrome, their parents, friends, families, carers and professional members too, rom all backgrounds and across Hertfordshire.
