Welcome to Tudor Place, a five-acre oasis of elegance and greenery in the heart of D.C.'s Georgetown district! Georgetown was still a busy port in 1816, when the house was completed by owners Martha Custis Peter, a granddaughter of Martha Washington, and her husband, Thomas, a local landowner. The Peters used an $8,000 legacy from step-grandfather George Washington to acquire the property, which now boasts the largest collection of original Washingtoniana outside Mt. Vernon. It was home to six generations of the Peter family before opening to the public in 1988.
In addition to guided house tours and self-guided garden walks, Tudor Place hosts fun and exciting events and special tours throughout the year for adults, families, history lovers and social butterflies, all with our unique historic flavor.
