Torpedo Factory Art Center

Our mission is to inspire creativity. Founded in 1974 in a converted naval munitions plant the Torpedo Factory Art Center is home to the nation’s largest number of publicly accessible working artist studios under one roof. Each year, more than a half-million national and international visitors pass through the doors to meet artists, participate in creative events, and appreciate art exhibitions.

With more than 130 resident artists in 82 studios on three floors, there is always something new to see and experience. Observe artists at work, ask about their creative processes, learn what inspires them, and discovery what inspires you! Shop and bring home original art for your collection.

Find artists working in:

Ceramics • Collage & Mixed Media • Fiber • Glass & Enamel • Jewelry • Painting & Drawing • Photography • Printmaking • Sculpture • and more

The Art Center is currently managed by the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts, a division of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. Learn more at or follow @alexartsoffice on Twitter and Instagram.
