To Open Their Eyes, Inc.

To Open Their Eyes (TOTE), Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) serving young people in Metro Louisville.  The Mission of TOTE is to help young people grow holistically in confidence, knowledge, community, and power.

TOTE has been organized to engage marginalized populations of youth and young adults in safe spaces, sessions, events, and other activities that will help foster confidence, self-respect, and self-worth by gaining great knowledge about how to navigate through systems of which they play a role and the individual and collective power they possess when they are able to effectively communicate, stay aware of their surroundings and situations, and understand reasoning.

TOTE operates to engage marginalized populations of youth and young adults in safe spaces, sessions, events, and other activities to help foster confidence, self-respect, and self-worth in these youth.  As we attempt to help them secure the knowledge needed to understand how to navigate through the different systems in which they play a role, and the individual and collective power they possess when they are able to effectively use their voices, we are giving them more than hope, we are giving them options and opportunities.  It is our hope that they become able to maintain awareness of their surroundings and situations, understanding reasoning, holism, and the importance of being well-rounded, diverse, and civically engaged.

The goal of TOTE is to 1.  Empower young people and relieve them from their ignorance surrounding law and law enforcement.  2.  Enable young people to recognize violations of their rights, address them, and act accordingly through civil, respectful, and effective means.  3.  Take what they learn from the programming, the life skills, and their mentors and share those experiences and knowledge gained with their families and others in their community.
