The answer to eliminate HIV transmission and stigma is a matter of the Tribe Heart; which clearly identifies the 4 statuses of HIV. We apply today's science to the 30-year legacy of HIV and stand for hope not fear, acceptance not division, and honesty not secrecy.
Here are the 4 kinds of status:
Thrive Tribe Foundation has provided assistance, consultation, and support to thousands of men. Our new member orientations are offered free of charge and provide a safe and open forum for positive men to share their experiences, concerns, and successes with another poz-brother. Thousands of these peer-to-peer orientations have helped us build real-world tools and strategies to assist each subsequent member in navigating their journey with ease and support.
Our educational seminars, forums, and online outreach have helped literally thousands of people impacted by HIV. We provide a fresh, up-to-date perspective on HIV in the modern era that builds on lessons learned and provides fact-based counsel to overcome fear and misinformation. The goal is not only to help positive men realize the benefits of life-saving treatments, but also to remain in care for their own well being, and to stop the spread of the virus.
Individuals touched by HIV are faced with a myriad of serious and confounding decisions regarding health insurance, medication and access to quality care. The red tape and confusion can often push people away from treatment and create more isolation. Less than 40% of positive men are in treatment and undetectable – this must change for the health of themselves and the end transmission.
At our Connection to Care Center in West Hollywood, we assist hundreds of members, regardless of status, in navigating the complex healthcare system to guarantee that they are getting the very best treatment and support. This includes information and enrollment resources for all programs including The Affordable Care Act (ACA), AIDs Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), Health Insurance Premium Program (OA HIPP), Ryan White and MediCal. We proudly boast nearly 15% of the total OA HIPP enrollees in the entire state of California.
The results are impressive – over 20% of members meet us either never having been in care or fallen out of treatment. Our programs link all members to care and we achieve a 90+% in-treatment result.
What makes Thrive Tribe Foundation unique is its sense of community with those that have similar experiences. Activities for the Tribe are designed to mitigate isolation and depression, and create a safe space to nourish the body, mind, and spirit. The events and activities are broad. From discussion forums and lectures to potlucks and bowling – there is something for everyone!
Best of all, the healing, networking, and friendships that are formed ensure a better quality of life and adherence to life-saving treatments. These activities not only benefit the individual but help stop the spread of the virus.
The social, educational and networking aspect of Thrive Tribe Foundation is essential to our success and keep members engaged with each other and their health. These activities offer a supportive system instead of a “support group.”
