The Wisconsin Association of African-American Lawyers (WAAL)

WAAL is an association of African American Lawyers dedicated to ensuring diversity in Wisconsin's legal community.

MISSION STATEMENT: To diversify the legal community and to be a source of information and inspiration to fellow African-American lawyers and the community as a whole.

Background and History:  Formerly known as the Wisconsin Association of Minority Attorneys (WAMA), WAAL was established in 1988 and is actively involved in community affairs throughout Milwaukee.� WAAL is a non-profit organization that provides community service to people through the People's Law School, Street Law, and various Trial competitions.

Purpose of WAAL: The purpose of WAAL is toensure the diversification ofthe legal community. To this end, WAAL sponsors an annual Mock Trial Competition for urban high school students, co-sponsors judicial forums with other bar associations, and provides scholarships to African-American law students attending Marquette University Law School and the University of Wisconsin Law School. WAAL is affiliated with the National Bar Association and the State Bar of Wisconsin.
