The Genesee Valley Safety Council
The Genesee Valley Safety Council is a group of Safety professionals whose mission is to enhance the education of local professionals in the field of Occupational Safety. This mission is accomplished through the management and presentation of conferences and professional development courses on various safety topics that are pertinent to both our geographic region and to local industry.
American Society of Safety Engineers -ASSE
Founded in 1911, ASSE is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. With more than 37,000 members worldwide, ASSE is a global association of occupational safety, health (OSH) and environmental professionals that advances the interests of its members and the profession. ASSE members create safer work environments by preventing workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses. Safer organizations enjoy increased productivity, higher employee satisfaction and a better reputation, while recording less lost time, and lower workers’ compensation and healthcare costs. ASSE members are classified in one of six member categories: professional, member, associate, international, student and emeritus. Members also can participate in practice specialties, branches, common interest groups and local chapters.
Western New York American Industrial Hygiene Association
The WNYAIHA serves the area's health and safety professionals, providing a forum in which to learn, exchange ideas and promote the profession. Its professional members are dedicated to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of environmental factors arising in or from the workplace that may result in injury, illness, and impairment or affect the well-being of workers and members of the community.
Greater Rochester New York Association of Occupational Health Nurses
GRNYAOHN exists to advance the profession of Occupational Health Nursing by offering innovative professional and leadership development, networking and career opportunities. We advocate for legislation, regulations and public policy that positively impact occupational and environmental health.
Occupational and environmental health nursing is the specialty practice that provides for and delivers health and safety programs and services to workers, worker populations and community groups. The practice focuses on promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from work-related and environmental hazards. Occupational and environmental health nurses (OHNs) have a combined knowledge of health and business that they blend with healthcare expertise to balance the requirement for a safe and healthful work environment with a “healthy” bottom line.
