Dennis McCarthy's Saloon inherited Long Beach's first saloon, where all of the residents would go for their alcohol in the late 1800's. Of course that was until the Anti-Saloon League within Long Beach sought to shut him down.

The Volstead Act soon went into effect in the 1920's and they expected McCarthy to shut down for good. But that simply was not the case.

From what is now Pine Ave, the illegal alcohol trade moved over to Signal Hill where the oil boom had just struck in 1924. The money was good and people wanted their alcohol; McCarthy made sure the people got what they wanted.

Experience Long Beach's original secret bar. Lore has it it McCarthy opened up The Exhibition Room before abandoning it shortly after prohibition. Still in it's former glory experience live music and the spirit of Long Beach cocktail culture within our small museum and exhibit.
