The Center for Hearing and Speech is the only full-service resource in Houston to teach deaf children to listen and speak without the use of sign language.
In 1947, four parents founded The Houston School for Deaf Children to provide an oral communication option for their children with hearing impairments. Throughout the years, it has grown from a small school to The Center for Hearing and Speech (CHS). A United Way agency, CHS provides the most comprehensive oral communication resources in the region for children with mild to profound hearing loss.
It is the mission and passion of the staff to identify and serve children with hearing impairments. Through the magic of technology, like hearing aids and cochlear implants, combined with intensive speech therapy, audiology, education and support services, these children can have the tools they need to communicate in a hearing world.
CHS is profoundly grateful to all of the volunteers and artists who donated their time and talent to make Houston Via Colori 2015 a success. Thank you for your part in helping hearing-impaired children and deaf children learn to listen and speak.
