The Budd Center: Involving Communities in Education

The Budd Center, within the Annette Caldwell School of Education and Human Development at SMU, equips schools and nonprofits to work together to meet the extraordinary needs of children living in poverty. It leads The School Zone (TSZ) in West Dallas, a collective impact partnership currently comprised of 32 nonprofits, 16 public, private and charter schools, the Dallas Independent School District and SMU.

The School Zone’s purpose is to prevent human needs from derailing educational success and to help nonprofits and schools collaborate to provide effective interventions during in-school and out-of-school programs. TSZ sites are also operational in Dallas ISD’s North Dallas feeder pattern and in Taos, New Mexico.
