Survivors of Abuse Rising for Justice ("SOAR for Justice")

SOAR for Justice is dedicated to helping survivors of abuse rise for justice. Its founder and director, Dovie Yoana King, is a devoted public interest lawyer and California native with 2 decades of legal experience who kept a dark secret- she was in an abusive marriage and endured emotional, physical, verbal, sexual and financial abuse. While this chapter in her life was truly devastating, she gradually overcame fear and isolation by reaching out for help at the San Diego Family Justice Center, an organization that provides free services for abused women and their children. In doing so, Dovie gained support to escape the abuse, obtain a restraining order and navigate a high conflict divorce and custody case in family court. While Dovie successfully obtained sole legal and physical custody of her child, she understands that many other abused women do not fare so well and reform is needed to improve the legal system. Currently, Dovie resides in Boston and works at Harvard Law School's Office of Public Interest Advising. She is a member of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, San Diego Domestic Violence Council, San Diego County Bar Association and The Lawyers Club of San Diego. She is dedicated to advancing the rights of survivors and promoting family court justice.
