Sunshine State Superkids
What we are planning to do to give special needs children (downs syndrome, visually impaired, autism, spina bifida, etc.) the opportunity to get involved in sports. We are getting ready to start our eighth year, with races in Winter Haven, Ocoee, Dundee, Clearwater. Groveland, Apopka, Plant City and Spring Hill. We got to Thank all the cities for the support.
I’m sure you know that these children cannot race a car alone, therefore, the cars are two seated. One of the children is coming out of Foster Home Group Homes, Inner City Children, siblings or an elementary school child will become the actual drivers with the special needs child riding beside them. Children ages to be from7 to 17 years old. We have tried to make sure all the children have the needs in the cars, harnesses, head rests and much more. We also have helmets for the all the children to wear. All children that attend the events will go home with a medal. We have also been able to work with community to get breakfast, lunch and drinks supplied for the day.
The special organizations and family members were so impressed with what we did that we were asked to put more races together. Over the last 7 years, with help of several sponsors, friends, local high schools, and because of their kindness we now have 25 cars built and 7 more being built.
Our events are free to al the families. A couple notes: We would love to have the children at the event around 8am for registration and we will be starting the racing around 9am. The races will be rotated so all the children will get their turn. Expect the children to get a couple times to race, it all depends on the number of children that come out will depend on how many times they can race. Please remember that we will be racing until 2pm.
