We hold regular classes for a variety of levels. You don't need to worry about bringing a partner—we rotate partners during lessons so you'll have a chance to dance with just about every lead or follow in the room!
You'll learn the most by regularly attending classes and then sticking around for the social dances to try out your new moves. If you see a dancer who's better than you, ask them to dance! Everyone started out as a beginner, and you can learn a lot from dancing with people at all levels.
The Level 2 Series are for students who have taken a few of our Level 1 classes and are familiar with the basics of posture, pulse, connection and tone. We offer drop-in Level 1 classes every week from 9-10pm immediately before the dance.
What to Expect
Blues is a family of dances focused on connection, musicality and partnership. If that sounds scary, don't worry, the most important thing is to have fun! You absolutely do not need to bring a partner with you! People come to dance with everybody.
If you're asked to dance, we encourage you to say "yes!" There is absolutely no commitment past the 3 minute dance, but if you want to, occasionally people dance two or even three songs in a row. Of course, if you are uncomfortable for any reason, come find one of the organizers and we will address the situation immediately.
What to Wear
Dress casually and comfortably. Some people gussy up a bit and we always appreciate their style. We suggest eithersmooth sneakers or dress shoes. We discourage high-heel or open-toes shoes—we don't want you to hurt yourself!
We have a strong focus on making our partners happy and comfortable. Dancing can be a pretty physically demanding activity, so it's a good idea to use plenty of deodorant before you come. Some dancers even bring changes of shirt in case they get too sweaty throughout the night. And, of course, breath mints are never a bad idea!
