Starlings Housing Coop

Starlings aims to choose the home design for the builds, space and community facilities to encourage social interaction: meetings, sharing meals and community engagement.
Starlings will work in partnership to secure land through a Community Asset Transfer from Brighton and Hove Council or through the Brighton and Hove Community Land Trust (BHCLT) to build 24 dwellings with a community centre.
No more than 30% of low household income underpins building and maintenance budgets, as rent (close to the Living Rent Campaign advocacy of social rent levels.) Upfront costs will be kept to a minimum for renters.
Starlings are driven by their common lived experience of: low income, consensus decision making and focus on sustainability.
Our Coop arrangement will be a mix of 25% ownership and 75% Living / social rent and yes, we are recruiting new members.
