South Carolina Football Hall of Fame

Mission Statement

The mission of the SCFHOF is to honor South Carolina football legends, support player career transitions, improve player safety and promote the game of football and South Carolina.

About us:

Honor athletes, coaches, business, and media professionals connected to South Carolina who have made a significant and positive impact through football.  We help promote and support the game of football and those who play it. Our Business Connect program provides players with collective wisdom from football alumni to support and encourage their transition to life beyond football.  We encourage the support of football and our community and annually present a Humanitarian of the Year Award. We acknowledge the thread of football that intertwines with nearly all facets of life in the great state of South Carolina.

Any person who played, coached, wrote about or otherwise supported football at the highest of levels and either (i) did so in South Carolina, or (ii) did so elsewhere, but is a native of South Carolina, is eligible for consideration.

Honor the Legends. The SCFHOF has inducted 25 football greats in its five (5) class history, all of which have South Carolina ties. On April 20, 2017, we celebrated our 5th Anniversary Enshrinement Ceremony. For the first time in three classes we honored more than four inductees.  We added a “Legacy Inductee” who represents a person who made a significant impact on the game of football with SC ties that would be considered outside of the modern era. The Inductee chosen for that inaugural distinction was Felix “Doc” Blanchard who is from McColl, SC and was the first player with SC ties to win the Heisman Trophy (Army, 1945).  The rest of the Class of 2017 was SC State’s Charlie Brown, Wofford’s Fisher DeBerry, Clemson’s Levon Kirkland, and University of South Carolina’s Dick Sheridan (Coached at Furman and NC State).  We re-named the Collegiate Player of the Year Award, the Blanchard-Rogers Award and Trophy, presented by Hale’s Jewelers to honor the two Heisman winners with SC ties.  Former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson received the inaugural trophy for his fantastic 2016 season that ended in a National Championship. Watson was the first in our history to receive this honor of his exploits on the field in back-to-back years.  Our 2017 Humanitarian of the Year was awarded posthumously to former Bruce Arians and Dabo Swinney agent Mike Brown. The Humanitarian of the Year honors those who have made a significant impact on its community and best exemplifies the SCFHOF’s “4 pillars”.  He is a Clemson graduate, who helped start Dabo’s All In Foundation, the Arian’s Family Foundation, and has worked with Kathleen Swinney to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

Improve Player Safety. While great strides have been made to improve the game and safety, public concern continues over the issue of safety.  We are connecting South Carolina to the best available safety programs in the country. We are in discussions with helmet retailers, the NFL, USA Football, Heads Up, and others who provide proper tackling technique training, football equipment upgrades and more. Our safety committee is working to bring the best of these programs to South Carolina, provide public awareness to safety improvements, and facilitate the partnerships we need to achieve our mission of safety and improving the game.

Support Career Transition-Business Connect. Business Connect introduces businessmen who played college football with college football alumni making the transition from football to another career. These former college football players can identify with the challenges presented upon leaving the field of play.  We anticipate Business Connect will become a national program helping the college football player’s transition to life after football.  We have launched a platform to easily connect these participants through a Business Connect LinkedIn Group in which participants can connect with one another, engage in various job related posts featuring tips, job openings, and more. In February 2017, we worked with Clemson University at a “business fair” for their athletes to introduce the Business Connect program to football players.  We are working on duplicating this aspect of the program in our colleges and universities throughout the state over the 2017-2018 fiscal year.

Promote the Game. Two years ago we established our Mobile Museum and Fan Experience (MMFE), which is an interactive museum that travels to football games, other outdoor events including sponsor locations to raise awareness and funding for the SCFHOF. We are also working on the development of a sustainable plan for a SCFHOF Museum to be built in the Upstate. In addition to our physical promotion, we use our social media to promote those from SC who are impacting the game positively.

Operating funds for these programs and our fundraising events can be achieved through strategic sponsorship partners, donations, memberships, and the support from our Board of Advisors and Directors.  The power of each of these groups working together will help us attain the goals and complete the vision of the SCFHOF.
