Sonia Plumb Dance Company

Sonia Plumb Dance Company was formed nearly thirty years ago with the mission: to enrich and educate the community through innovative modern. SPDC fulfills this mission by providing performances, classes, workshops, community outreach, arts integration residencies to diverse audiences . We collaborate with musicians and composers, artists and actors, puppeteers, poets and educators. SPDC is known for reaching beyond the arts community with a diverse repertoire that often reflects upon larger societal issues. Our vision is to create a transformative perspective the world.

Artistic Director, Sonia Plumb, is deeply committed to exploring the societal and cultural content of each new project with robust education and outreach programming. Ms. Plumb is a National Artist Teaching Fellow, and has thrice received the Connecticut Office of the Arts Fellowship for Artistic Excellence. In 2015 Plumb was one of nine artists nationwide to receive a Community Legacy Project award for her arts integration program.

SPD annually serves more than 4,500 audiences of all ages – from grades K-12, college age students to adults and the physically and emotionally challenged. From the inner cities of Greater Hartford to small towns throughout New England, to international venues, our programs inspire and educate in the classroom and on the stage. Our nationally recognized arts-integration residencies follow Common Core State and National Arts standards and integrate dance with science, math and literature.
