Soft Touch Arts - chris@soft-touch.org.uk

Soft Touch Arts supports young people with challenging lives to gain skills and self-belief: by involving them in arts, music, media and cooking activities.   The young people we work with have chaotic home lives, are in the care system, have mental health and behavior issues or live in homes with very low incomes so they struggle to access activities that benefit their health and wellbeing.

Since 1986, we have worked tirelessly in communities across Leicester and Leicestershire to make a difference to children and young people who need extra support to overcome life challenges and reach their potential.

Each year we work with over 1000 young people aged 13-30, involving them in exciting arts, music, media and health promotion projects that build creative, social and employability skills.   We also run projects which tackle local and national issues such as obesity, emotional wellbeing, bullying and youth anti-social behaviour and crime prevention.

In June 2015, HRH Earl of Wessex opened our youth arts and heritage centre at 50 New Walk.  This was a groundbreaking project for a small charity, raising over £1 million to create a superb facility for the city.  It will give opportunities to Leicester’s young people to build creative talent, develop life and social skills and to be part of creative enterprise initiatives in partnership with local businesses. Our work helps to broaden horizons and aspiration, and provides an alternative way to connect young people to the world of work.
