Shelter House, Inc

Shelter House, Inc. is a private 501(c)(3) charitable organization (Federal ID #59-2634092) located in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and is the only state-certified domestic violence center serving Okaloosa and Walton counties. In meeting the needs of victims, Shelter House provides safe emergency shelter, counseling, a 24-hour crisis hotline, assessment of children who are victims of domestic violence, direct service information and referrals, case management, community education and outreach, professional training in domestic violence issues and safety planning.

In April 2013, Shelter House leadership discovered that the rape crisis services in Okaloosa and Walton counties were ending in May 2013. After a unanimous vote, the Shelter House Board of Directors and Executive Director filed a letter of intent with the Florida Counsel Against Sexual Violence to become the certified rape crisis center for Okaloosa and Walton counties. In doing so, Shelter House will spend the next 12 months not only becoming experts in sexual violence but providing services to the community without funding from the regulating agency.
