Shawna Wakefield & Kate Werning

Kate Werning, organizer & RYT-200, grew into organizing by the resilient leadership of undocumented folks and youth of color in her hometown of Milwaukee, WI, organizing youth-led campaigns for racial justice and immigrant rights, and is now a Lead Trainer with a social movement training institute called Momentum. Kate integrates somatic tools into her organizing, serves on the faculty of Liberation School, and uplifts interdependence in her trauma-informed yoga classes at Third Root Community Health Center. She is a founder of Hoop House collective home in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn.

Shawna Wakefield is a gender justice advocate and consultant who supports organizations to develop, implement, monitor, evaluate, and learn from strategy and programs in support of gender justice and social transformation. She spent 8 years as Oxfam International's Senior Gender Justice Lead and has held a variety of positions in the US, Cambodia, and Afghanistan, with grassroots groups, NGOs, and the UN working for gender and economic justice. Shawna teaches trauma-informed yoga and shares her Buddhist meditation practice. She is particularly committed to supporting the wellbeing and resilience of activists to reflect, align, and embody deeply held principles, purpose and politics in their individual and collective leadership.

Resilience for Changemakers is a national series of workshops building community for healing and sustainability for organizers, activists, and changemakers. We are in partnership and reciprocity with Liberation School.
