Shionta Pumphrey, founder of Shades of Health, is a Hematology-Oncology nurse and certified yoga instructor from Southern Maryland with a desire to inspire. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from Hampton University in 2008 and started her career at the world renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Attempting to find balance with work and her personal life, Shionta made a transition to Orlando, FL where she was introduced to yoga. It was here she found a love and deep connection with Vinyasa Yoga sequences. Her daily practice kept her grounded mentally, physically and spiritually.
In December 2013, Shionta saw a need to connect black yoga instructors and wellness enthusiast across the globe. This journey has introduced many people of color to yoga practice and has inspired young black women and men to pursue Yoga Teacher Training. The goal is to empower change through the practice of yoga within communities across the world. Three years and counting Shades Of Health has sponsored multiple yoga workshops and inspired over 15,000 hashtags on social media across all 7 continents. Through heart investments from workshops and Shades Of Health events, donations are made to the National MPS Society for families and children who are challenged with rare genetic conditions.
With the support of her family and friends Shionta was able to complete her Yoga Teacher Training of 200 hours in August 2015. She loves teaching all levels and finds great joy guiding and developing a strong foundation for beginners. Currently residing in Atlanta, GA she connects her career with her passion by teaching yoga to her patients and colleagues at Northside Hospital. Her ultimate goal is to create scholarships for inspired yoga instructors and develop a platform that will allow instructors from all over the World to come together and teach in their respective communities.
