SFDFF + Catharine Clark Gallery / Box Blur

San Francisco Dance Film Festival is an international platform for the presentation and development of dance-based films. Its purpose is not only to celebrate the best dance films from around the world but to also encourage and assist Bay Area choreographers and filmmakers in the creation of new dance works created for the screen.

Since 2016, BOXBLUR has commissioned and presented collaborative projects created in response or in partnership with visual artist’s works. Unique theater, music, dance, spoken word, performance art, printmaking, readings, panel discussions, films and videos screening, and off-site installations and performances, are produced or hosted by BOXBLUR, a fiscally sponsored program of Dance Film SF. Annually, a central piece of BOXBLUR’s program is its partnership with the San Francisco Dance Film Festival (SFDFF), which jointly with Catharine Clark Gallery, present films awarded in the experimental category and complimentary, live dance performances within the non-proscenium-based setting of the Gallery. The films and attendant events are selected to coincide thematically with the Gallery’s visual art exhibitions.
