Second Wind Fund of Boulder County

Second Wind Fund of Boulder County seeks to prevent youth suicide by providing funded counseling services in our community.

Youth up to the age of 20 who are at an elevated risk for suicide and who have a financial need (i.e. uninsured, underinsured) are eligible for funded counseling services.  We receive referrals from private and public middle schools and high schools, community social workers, psychologists, and mental health professionals, as well as churches, hospitals, and mental health facilities.

We serve all of Boulder County.  Our service area covers Boulder Valley School District, St. Vrain Valley School District and some areas of Weld county.  Students need not be attending a public school to get our services.

Our therapists are given initial funding for eight sessions with the referred client.  This can be extended to as many as 20 sessions, as needed.  This allows for real change to occur.  Children and teens who are suicidal at one time time in their lives have a higher risk of being suicidal again.  A successful treatment experience will prepare them for any future need for therapy as well.

Since SWFBC's founding in April 2009, SWFBC has provided access to funded counseling services for over 279 youth in our community.  There are zero completed suicides among them.  Within hours of receiving a call for help, at-risk youth are connected with qualified, private therapists.  This immediate response is unique to SWFBC, and it is saving lives.
