Sarasota Bay Estuary Program

The Sarasota Bay Estuary Program is dedicated to restoring the region’s most important natural asset – Sarasota Bay. The program strives to improve water quality, increase habitat, and enhance the area’s natural resources for the use and enjoyment by the public. Since 1989, the SBEP and its partners have had a vision of Sarasota Bay with clear waters, healthy habitat, abundant wildlife, and a growing community enjoying the Bay’s resources and recreation.

The Sarasota Bay Guardians volunteer program engages people of all ages in ongoing efforts to restore and protect Sarasota Bay. The Sarasota Bay Guardians volunteers have donated thousands of hours to support the SBEP’s mission.

We gather on Saturday mornings at 9am and wrap up work by noon to enjoy a picnic lunch together.

Bay Guardians workdays include installing native plants, removing invasive exotic plants, creating oyster bags for reef building, cleaning up coastal areas, and more.
