Project Love Me, founded in 2011, focuses its efforts on building self-esteem in young girls in the south bay communities of Los Angeles. Our efforts focus on utilizing sport as a means of enhancing young girls self esteem, through workshops, mentorship and sports clinics. Self-esteem has always been an issue, but over the past few years it is fair to say it has become a crisis in the United States. An alarming number of young girls feel they do not measure up in some way including their looks, intellect and relationships. Low self-esteem keeps them from enjoying life, doing the things they want to do and working toward personal goals. Furthermore, young girls struggling with self-esteem are more likely to be victims of sexual assault, clinical depression and eating disorders. It is the goal of PLM to assist in the development of young girls into young women who are major contributors to society.
