Oakland Fukuoka Sister City Association

Established by the Oakland City Council in 1962, this time-honored relationship between the two cities grew out of President Dwight Eisenhower’s “people-to-people” program. This program encourages a cordial paring of American communities with those abroad.

Today, OFSCA’s programming focuses on two areas vital to all sister city relationships: introducing Fukuoka City and its culture to our community through numerous local events, and fostering mutual understanding and long-term relationships between generations of Oakland and Fukuoka citizens.

We are proud that this camaraderie continues to strengthen ties between our cities, our regional communities, and the young people who serve as ambassadors to each country. OFSCA activities help to enhance international understanding and harmony. As a result of this program, many life-long friendships are formed.
