Nikhil Badlani Foundation & West Orange Education Foundation

Our Mission

The Foundation The mission of The Nikhil Badlani Foundation (the "Foundation") is to expand and enhance the lives of underserved children in West Orange, New Jersey, and neighboring communities through individualized lessons for talented musicians, scholarships for graduating seniors, and traffic safety awareness and education for all.

The Foundation helps children pursue their passion for music by providing individualized music lessons for free or at a reduced cost for students from West Orange and neighboring towns who show talent and promise and who demonstrate financial need. Through such lessons, the Foundation hopes to foster creativity, self-esteem and confidence in children, as well as raise their awareness of and participation in local and state music organizations, such as the New Jersey Youth Symphony and the Youth Orchestra of Essex County.

The Foundation helps support the West Orange Scholarship Fund, which provides monetary awards to graduating West Orange High School seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, good character, artistic ability, and community involvement, in addition to financial need.

Traffic Safety Awareness

The Foundation will partner with state and local authorities by hosting events to promote awareness of traffic rules and improve traffic safety in residential areas, and by spreading the message “STOP means stop.”

The Nikhil Badlani Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, incorporated in July 2011. EIN#: 45-2812172

West Orange Education Foundation & West Orange Scholarship Fund

In 1923, a group of dedicated West Orange citizens organized the West Orange Scholarship Fund.  They recognized the need to provide financial assistance to deserving West Orange graduates who might otherwise be deprived of the opportunity of continuing their education.  The organization and the need have continued uninterrupted through the ensuing years and both are very much in evidence today.  The West Orange Scholarship Fund has three sources of income: earnings from its permanent endowment, generous contributions from the community in connection with our Trustees Annual Appeal and receipts from funds raised by the West Orange Council of PTAs including the sales of Tribute Cards by the PTAs at every school in town.

The first scholarship was awarded in 1925, and since then, through periods of prosperity, depression or recession, the Fund has never missed a year of awarding aid to deserving students.  In 2016, the Fund awarded a record of almost $67,000 to 77 deserving West Orange High School graduates.  Also, in 2014 the Fund surpassed $1 million in cumulative scholarships awarded to graduates of West Orange High School and the former Mountain High School since inception.

The Fund is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization (tax ID #22-6033022).

The West Orange Education Foundation was formed in 1996 by a group of West Orange citizens that were led by the legendary Hazel Elementary School Principal Fred Eckhardt.  The initial mission of improving computer technology in the West Orange elementary schools was a tremendous  success.

The Foundation is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization (tax ID #22-3447031.)
