National Alliance on Mental Illness York County

NAMI is the largest non-profit grassroots, self-help mental health organization in the nation.  Founded in 1979, NAMI is represented in all 50 states and has over 1100 local affiliates.   Working on the national, state and local levels, NAMI provides education and support; combats stigma; promotes research into the causes and cures for mental illness; and advocates for  adequate health insurance, housing, jobs, and services for people with mental illnesses.

Mission Statement

To improve the quality of life of all those whose lives are affected by mental illness, recognizing that the key concepts of recovery, resiliency and support are essential in achieving success.

An Organization:

· Of caring people with knowledge of, and experience with, the challenge of coping

   with severe brain disorders.

· Dedicated to creating a world in which   persons with severe brain disorders are treated

   equally with other persons.

NAMI  YORK COUNTY PROVIDES FAMILY SUPPORT, EDUCATION, AND ADVOCACY

 

If you, or someone you love, suffer from a serious mental illness, NAMI can help.  Our   support groups and education courses are led by specially trained teachers and facilitators who understand-because they have been through it.
