Mike Higdon

Mike Higdon, an American artist born in 1985, struggles to bridge the realism of journalism and the whimsy of art.

As the city life reporter for the Reno Gazette-Journal, the practice of journalism forces him to see a world of absolutes: right, accurate and factual. But, his personal world-view allows for conflicting ambivalence. As an artist and photographer he tries to find the overlap between the two.

Resistant to fake images and digital manipulation, Higdon squeezes honest moments out of situations, often seeking to find humor in juxtaposition or to reveal something people ignore.
His hope is that people will see a truer world and a truer self in the images he makes.
