Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure

Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure sole purpose is to raise funds for South Florida
Cancer Research. Our family has teamed up with Sylvester Cancer Center by
providing a community-based event that raises funds to be used for local cancer
research. The goal is to also recognize those that are suffering, fight for those who
we have lost and create awareness to the public.

Our vision for this particular fundraiser came about when our father Roberto
Alonso passed away from a rare form of cancer. He never stopped fighting for his
life, therefore we decided to keep fighting this disease in his name. Roberto was a
dedicated husband, father, grandfather, elected official and mentor to many. He
was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Cancer, May
of 2013. He was given very little hope by many with only days to live but with his
faith and the doctors at Sylvester Cancer Center he fought for 16 months with the
help of cutting edge treatments.

His will to live and survive gave his family and friends the desire to want to help
others going through the same scenarios. Roberto had a passion for antique cars
and cars in general, since a young age. He owned a beautiful 1964 Chevy Chevelle
which now belongs to his grandchildren and is the center of our event.

We are now entering our 6th year hosting this great event solely run by volunteers
with 100% of all monies raised going directly to Cancer Research at Sylvester
Cancer Center. To date, our events have raised close to $100,000 and had over
20,000 attendees to our events.
