Melannie Denise Cunningham - "Miss Melannie"

Melannie Denise Cunningham is recognized for bringing a fresh perspective and a positive attitude to any situation or environment she encounters.  She is passionate about social justice and equality for all people (especially women and girls), and brings that lens to every endeavor she contributes.  For more than 30 years, Melannie has inspired audiences across America and internationally using her strategic mind and "keepin' it real" style to help them develop professionally and discover life purpose.

Melannie’s professional and volunteer service spans several decades and industries including federal, city and state government, non-profit, radio, television, higher education and entrepreneurship.  She has served with the Department of the Navy, Department of Commerce, City of Tacoma and Washington State Department of General Administration in progressively responsible capacities including Equal Employment Opportunity, Materials Management and Community Partnership.  In 2006, she joined the Office of Admission team at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) as Director of Multicultural Recruitment.  She recently moved to the PLU Campus Ministry team as Director of Multicultural Outreach and Engagement with a dedicated focus on student of color success.

Melannie serves on the board of directors for Green Dot Public Schools Washington, Foundation for Tacoma Students, Women of Vision NGO, Sister Cities Council of Tacoma, Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the local advisory board for iHeart Media Seattle.  Her memberships include Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Tacoma-Pierce County American Leadership Forum (ALF) - Class XXII and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

She holds a B.A. from Washington State University, Certificate of Training in Broadcast Production Technology from Bates Technical College and an M.B.A. from Pacific Lutheran University.
