Maximize2040, an initiative of Baltimore Regional Transportation Board

The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board is the federally recognized Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation planning in the Baltimore region.

There are 11 members on the board representing the cities of Annapolis and Baltimore, the counties of Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard and the Maryland Department of Transportation, the Maryland Department of the Environment the Maryland Department of Planning and the Maryland Transit Administration. In addition, the BRTB has a number of committees and advisory groups that focus on specific technical and policy areas.

BRTB provides policy direction and oversight in the development of a federally mandated Long Range Transportation Plan, the Transportation Improvement Program and the transportation element of the State Air Quality Implementation Plan. The work program, the long range transportation plan and the transportation improvement program all require approval at a BRTB meeting. The staff of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council provide technical and staff support to the BRTB.
