Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches

Overdoses from heroin, prescription drugs, and opioid pain relievers last year surpassed car accidents as the leading cause of injury-related death in America, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Deaths have reached their highest levels of the 21st century in 2014, the most recent year for which data is available, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Heroin overdoses have more than tripled in the last five years, an issue receiving outsize attention nationally but especially during the presidential campaign season as New Hampshire has been one of the hardest-hit states.

For the first time in 40 years, the California Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (C-CARA) legislation shall expand all six pillars necessary for a coordinated response to addiction- prevention, treatment, recovery, law enforcement, criminal justice reform and overdose reversal.

LAM partnered with Vincent Brantly Enterprises and Road Back Film Executive Producer Tom Olson to launch a national conversation about opioid addiction and ending the war on drugs. Our nation's war on drugs has incarcerated millions of people and wasted billions of taxpayers dollars - but the Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches/Open Heart Recovery Program is fighting back to advance sensible drug policy reforms and increase access to treatment.

Your tax-deductible donation will help us reverse disastrous drug laws and remove barriers for people who want to get help today. We seek to shift our country's focus from shame & punishment to recovery and humane solutions.
