Kern Literacy Council

Kern Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to empower individuals to improve the quality of their lives through literacy education.  Formerly Kern Adult Literacy Council, we have been transforming lives through literacy since 1966.  All our programs are free and confidential thanks to an excellent team of volunteer tutors. We are always recruiting tutors. Tutors dedicate 1.5 to 3 hours per week and provided more than 14,000 hours in 2016.

Key programs include Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), High School Equivalency test preparation, and Family Literacy, a dual-generation program for parents and children.
