The next morning, Ramesh was my co-passenger on the state transport bus headed for Pune. We were excited as we were all set to enter a new phase of our lives. I had left home with my mother’s blessings. My father had given me Rs 3000 to pay the tuition fee for the law course and to keep the rest as pocket money.

In Pune, we boarded a crowded local bus from Deccan Gymkhana to the college.
