K Cancer Softball

K Cancer Softball is a youth run 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation working to make a difference in the lives of state-line (IL/WI) families battling childhood cancer. We have two goals:
  1. To support local families battling childhood cancer
  2. Raise up the next generation of socially conscious leaders
Next year roughly 16,000 families will find out that their child has cancer. 2,000 of those kids will die of their cancer 2/3 of the survivors will have life-long complications as a result of their treatment Federal funding for childhood cancer research trials declines year over year
Let’s bring the issues closer to home. Due to scale, our state-line area has no anchor Pediatric Oncology Facility Our families have to travel out of the area for the specialized treatment they need When you find out your child has cancer, you immediately feel “cut off” from society. The constant travel out of the area further isolates you from your neighbors. The added costs for gas, food, and lodging make a bad situation even worse. State-line, we have a problem!
At K Cancer Softball, we utilize a three phase approach in our efforts to support local families battling Childhood Cancer. First Base: Increase awareness to the issues facing our local families who are battling Childhood Cancer. We march in parades, participate in local events, make appearances on local television programs, write Op Ed articles, and speak at community meetings sharing our message with thought leaders in the community. We also have a 14U girls travel softball team that represent K Cancer Softball in area tournaments.
Second Base: We get in the trenches and directly assist families battling Childhood Cancer. We conduct home visits and provide care packages and financial assistance to help defray the added financial burden that is a result of traveling out of town for treatment. We want to make sure that no local family has to walk the childhood cancer road alone!
Third Base: Partner with established non profit organizations like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Be The Match Donor Registry, who are doing great work advocating and advancing research in the field of Childhood Cancer. We rep their services at our community events and provide needed feet on the street so that they can distribute their assistance to state-line families!
