Joshua's House

The Health Communication Research Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was established in 1989 to reduce health disparities in our community. In 2015, we started planning Joshua's House, a hospice house for terminally ill men and women.

Under the leadership of Marlene M. von Friederichs-Fitzwater, PhD, Joshua's House has received widespread support among city officials, community leaders, volunteers, and the homeless population. It  will be located in approximately 11,000 sq. ft. of an existing building in downtown Sacramento.

One homeless person dies on the streets of Sacramento each day. Joshua's House will provide a much needed service to help people complete their lives comfortably and with dignity. It will also send a strong message that Sacramento cares deeply for the most vulnerable people in our society.
