Jean Givan

Born and raised in Hollis, Queens. I had an interest in Vision Boards for decades, started by covering my walls with pin up pictures and posters of the Jackson Five, back in the day. That parlayed into successfully doing Vision Board journals. I knew I was onto something when I pasted pictures of fashion and clothes into a composition book. I would look at the pictures and think of how I wanted to change my wardrobe. One day, I got a call from my mother's friend, "out of the blue," to go to her house and pick out which of her very lightly used shoes I wanted (we wore the same size) because she was buying new ones. I walked out of there with TWENTY ONE pairs of high fashioned (i.e., Italian, Bandalino, Town & Country, leather, etc.), hi-end shoes. Same thing happened when I wanted to move to Los Angeles, didn't know how to go about it, and when I wanted to go to Syracuse University and didn't really have the money to go the distance. That was okay. I had my pictures in a book, and I operated my "special powers," and it wasn't long before I was a California resident, three weeks after I graduated from Syracuse University with a BA degree in English. I had ended up with a full scholarship at SU from my 2nd year until I graduated. I could go on and on but I'll save it for the workshop.... MORE TO COME.
