Iota Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

The Iota Zeta Chapter has a rich history of service and support in the Indianapolis community.  In the spring of 1930, the late Mistresses Flora Bates, Ruth Bailey and Carolyn Cain with the assistance of Mr. Elder W. Diggs, principal of School 42, met in an effort to organize a chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.  This group of women, along with Mr. Diggs, made contact with Eliza Baker (president of Teacher's College and superintendent of Indianapolis Kindergarten) to assist in their efforts.  These determined and courageous women succeeded in their effort on June 30, 1931 when the Iota Zeta Chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
