In 2015, a group of women came together through Coro Pittsburgh’s Women in Leadership program to try and solve a problem. We recognized that there was a huge disparity between the success rates of women owned enterprises and male owned enterprises. Women were starting companies at the same rate but were unable to achieve the same investment success as their male counterparts. Our solution, host an all-female pitch competition with the intent of driving capital and investment opportunities to women owned enterprises.

Invest in Her quickly became a reality; it also became the first all-female pitch competition in the region. What started out as an event designed to create awareness and foster encouragement has turned into an organization dedicated to supporting female entrepreneurs. In our first pitch competition, we sorted through 40 applications and videos to narrow it down to six deserving finalists. Our applicants spanned different industries, ethnicity, age and experience. We raised over $6,500 to be given away as prize money and on the day of the pitch we awarded 3 cash prizes and in-kind services to three amazing businesses, Pack Up + Go, Whetstone Workgroup, and Mix Salad Concept.
