Inner Child University

Inner Child University™ (ICU) describes my brand as a certified Life Coach. I specialize in helping people with issues related to diversity, communication skills, writing, alcoholism and addiction, the immigrant experience, career and workplace success, relationships and, transforming childhood triggers and traumas.

After graduating from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, I spent 16 years as a New York City journalist. I was The New York Daily News columnist covering diversity and the immigrant experience and also previously worked at Crain's New York Business, The Newark Star-Ledger, Newsday-Cablevision and PBS-Ch. 13. As an educator, I have over 16 years of experience in teaching journalism, creative writing and communication skills (NYU, The New School, Westchester Community College, Sarah Lawrence College, Baruch College, St. John's University). I recently co-authored a pedagogy-focused instructor training manual for NYU's American Journalism Online graduate program and run faculty development workshops for the Office of the Assistant Provost at The New School.

Personal stuff: I am the recovering daughter of my beloved control freak Chinese immigrant parents, who were originally from China and Vietnam. I am also the first American-born person in the history of the ancestors. No pressure, right? Haha. I bring to my coaching everything I've learned as a journalist, professor, woman of color, divorced single mom and pet lady. And, one more thing that makes my coaching special: I'm certified in various Classical Chinese Medicine techniques (including breathing and other forms of meditation, healthy eating and more). Looking forward to meeting and working with you!
