Friends of South Slough Reserve, Inc

The Friends of South Slough reserve (FOSS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all-volunteer support organization for the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (Reserve) located in Coos County on the Southern Oregon Coast. FOSS promotes and assists the Reserve in its education and research activities and obtains grants, donations and in-kind resources to support and expand the Reserve's programs and infrastructure.  FOSS sponsors many programs and activities each year that raise public awareness and understanding of estuary and watershed ecosystem environments, as well as projects that expand public access to experience these natural environments via trail development (both land and water), and interpretive infrastructure (both outdoor and indoor).  Our overarching goal is to extend the outreach for public involvement and awareness of this important Oregon resource in particular, and in general to raise public awareness regarding the crucial role that watersheds and estuaries play in maintaining a viable environment that supports key Pacific NW ecosystems. The FOSS organization also maintains a book store at the SSNERR Interpretive Center and FOSS volunteers help interpret South Slough's ecology and natural features for visitors. Members of FOSS also assist with guided paddle trips, trail walks, classes and with hosting special events.
