What is it? Southbank Centre is inviting 100s of artists and performers from around the UK and the world to participate and collaborate in its Festival of the World. The Festival of the World will run from 1 June to 9 September 2012 and is the second of three summer festivals that MasterCard is supporting at Southbank Centre.
All of these artists and performers need somewhere to socialise, connect and relax when they are not performing. So between now and 28 May we are transforming a former store rooms and workshops under the Queen Elizabeth Hall into the “Festival Village” which will be at the heart of the Festival of the World and a hub for all artists, performers, staff, volunteers and partners.
Who can join in? The Festival Village is being designed and built by volunteers from all walks of life in London. It is free and you don’t need any experience to participate.
All you need is enthusiasm, time and an interest in any of the following: architecture, design, graphics, hospitality, interiors, art and culture, building, carpentry, DIY, landscape gardening, the South Bank, languages, meeting new people, festivals, film, co-design, co-build, performance, volunteering, London, communications. There is something for everyone.
Where? The Festival Village is located behind the Southbank Centre Skate Park (under the Queen Elizabeth Hall).
When? Every Wednesday and every Saturday between now and May 28 we need your help to design and build the Festival Village.
