Educated Angels

MTM is excited to announce our new initiative Educated Angels! Educated Angels is our outreach program designed to support the youth of our community through collaboration with local businesses and organizations. The program consists of our Make It Work (MiW), the support we give KISD HARP and the C Zach Sheppard Foundation.
Make It Work (MiW) was developed in 2013 as an Internship Program for future educators. MiW allows local high school and college students to gain experience during our summer educational camps. Interns receive firsthand experience with teaching, lesson planning, progress reports and parent communication. Following successful completion of the internship, each is awarded a college scholarship. MiW holds a Scholarship Gala each spring to honor the recipients. The Gala brings together several businesses, educators and government officials.
MTM supports KISD HARP with three specific projects in an effort to build awareness for the program. For the past three years we have collected school supplies and backpacks. The collection is presented to KISD at our annual Back 2 School Bash (B2SB) held in August at Harker Heights Carl Levin Park. The Bash allows youth groups and organizations to enjoy a day of fundraising and performing. MTM has presented truckloads of supplies and backpacks to assist with the more than 1300 homeless students in KISD. In addition, our food drive held in downtown Killeen in conjunction with Scratch Bistro collected over a ton of food for the HARP pantry. Lastly, we are an ongoing collection site for their clothing closet. We have partnered up with area businesses to provide prom dresses with all the trimmings to the 56 homeless seniors.
Our newest endeavor is the C Zach Sheppard Foundation which was formed January 2016 with the untimely passing of one of MTM’s own. C Zach Sheppard Foundation was initiated to inspire youth in our community to follow their dreams, TRY with all their might and succeed. A GoFundMe account was established to assist with these awards. The Foundation will focus on areas that influenced C Zach the most. Students from the Harker Heights High School Bowling Team will receive a scholarship to the college of their choosing. The KISD Special Olympics Team requires many volunteer man hours to successfully assist their athletes on the road to being brave in their attempts. The Foundation has a desire to recognize the volunteers of this amazing organization. C Zach participated in the Stars of Tomorrow bowling league at Hallmark Lanes in Killeen. We have partnered with the league to hold a benefit tournament in C Zach’s honor. The proceeds will support the GoFundMe. Winners will receive new equipment as well as scholarship awards. In addition, Harker Heights SUPER HEROES Adaptive Sports program will receive assistance towards the program necessities. Participants in the Super Heroes Program are afforded the opportunity to participate in leisure sports activities that they might not otherwise be able to do. Lastly, MiW will award one of its scholarships in honor of C Zach to an Intern who is interested in pursuing Special Education.
