Dunstan Bertschinger - Inspiration Coach

Achieving the Impossible

Within a short space of time Dunstan went from being a complete novice winning two of the highest profile events in the UK. A last minute substitute into the crew that took out the Temple Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta in 1997. Two weeks later he was one of four from that crew who went on to win the National Championships in a coxless four. What was remarkable was that the boat was nothing special at the start of the weekend but they found more and more form through each of the rounds of the competition. Never finishing higher than second place in any of the races until the final where the crew led from the start, beating several olympians. Not a bad result for four university students who had only rowed in that combination for a few outings...

Looking back it seemed like the crew had 'achieved the impossible'. To win a medal of any colour at national level would have been a great result. Bringing home the gold was a magical experience which changed Dunstan forever. He started to question what else might be possible in other areas of life. Believing that something was 'impossible' was no longer a good excuse for not trying it!

A few years later Dunstan took up Triathon and finished 12th in his age group at the World Championships in Queenstown, New Zealand in 2003. After moving to Australia for he stepped up to the challenge of the Ironman distance and has since completed 7 IM in 4 different countries including the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2005. He was also Australian age group champion over the half ironman distance in the same year.

More recently Dunstan has taken up yoga, kite surfing and free diving whilst creating his own system for swim coaching helping people to achieve massive improvements in a short period of time. Learning to run his own business successfully was a steep curve which again seemed impossible at many points along the journey.

Since moving back to the UK in June 2014 Dunstan has been working on a number of projects and has returned to Cambridge and is available as a coach, workshop facilitator and inspirational speaker to help you to get the most out of your rowing and your life.
