Virginia obtained her B.A. in Mathematics from Antioch College in Ohio, an M.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education from NC A & T University, an M.A. in Mathematics from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and her Ph.D. in Mathematics (Discrete Mathematics) from University of South Carolina. She has taught at the University of Cape Town (South Africa), University of South Carolina and Lander University (SC) before joining the faculty at Columbia College.
Her interests include discrete mathematics, number theory and graph theory. She has also taught high school mathematics in public schools, and is passionate about finding ways to improve the teaching of mathematics at all levels. She enjoys working with undergraduate students on independent research projects.
Her non-academic pursuits include hiking, and working with fiber arts including spinning, dying, felting, and knitting.
