Dorset Business Mentoring (DorMen)

A recent independent survey of our clients established that more than half reported an average turnover increase of over 20% in their first year of being mentored. Our clients report greater confidence, improved skills across leadership/time management/marketing strategy, clearer direction and operation overall. The Federation of Small Business states "twice as many businesses survive and thrive past 5 years with the support of a mentor than those who are not supported by one".

Dorset Business Mentoring is an indepedant not-for-profit programme service funded by a partnership of Dorset Councils, private, public and educational organisations whose support ensures accessibility for owners of all types, structures of business at any stage of the business cycle in Dorset.

We match each business owner we serve with a mentor on a 1:1 basis and also provide a complimentary programme of free skills development workshops from 'developing financial acumen' to 'employing and leading people'.

Mentees can benefit from the considerable experience of our Mentors who have themselves set up and run their own successful businesses or who have senior management experience, giving their time for the benefit of other business owners.

The mentor/mentee relationship is confidential and one where the mentor gives guidance and support to their mentee to set and achieve agreed objectives. They provide objectivity and an invaluable to step back from the day-to-day running of the business and review how things are going as well as what could be learnt from and improved. They are also provide an experienced sounding board and guidance through the decision making process.

Having a mentor can be transformative for buinsess owners: reducing risk and increasing likelihood of success, whether the challenge is laying solid foundations to build and thrive past the first 5 years of business, looking at responding to rapid growth or even considering how to best approach a long term exit strategy.
