Desmond Tutu Center for Peace, Reconciliation, and Global Justice

Launched September 12, 2013, The Desmond Tutu Center is a collaborative effort between Butler University and the Christian Theological Seminary. It is North America’s only academic center in a university and seminary context named for Archbishop Emeritus Tutu. The center promotes the legacy of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, with his holistic understanding of reconciliation grounded in justice, human dignity, and social transformation.

Our mission: To understand, enhance and impact the local and global discourse around peace, reconciliation and global justice by cultivating research, promoting the exchange and understanding of global issues, developing young leaders and nurturing concern for justice and peacemaking among civic, religious, and academic leaders.

Our vision: To shape the future by building public discourse around peace, reconciliation, and global justice, by encouraging the formation of conscientious, responsible, and courageous citizenship.

DTC initiatives focus on leadership development in social justice and reconciliation, international relationships, and interreligious bridge building through education, programming and fellowship.
