Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established program in local communities throughout the world. A sisterhood of more than 250,000 college-educated women, the Sorority currently has more that 1,000 chapters around the globe. The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization’s Five Point Thrust:
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence; to provide scholarships; to provide support to the underserved; educate and stimulate participation in establishment of positive public policy; and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in their communities.
Rutherford County Alumnae Chapter (RCAC) was chartered on May 4, 1985 by the twelve chartering members at Middle Tennessee State University ’s University Center (UC). With the charter came a dedication to extend Delta’s commitment to public service, academic excellence, and cultural enrichment to enhance the quality of life for all residents of Rutherford County.
Rutherford County Alumnae Chapter currently has 90 members who are all registered voters and hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Many of our members work in the fields of Education, Healthcare, Insurance and Technology in Rutherford County and the surrounding area. Since our chartering in May 1985, RCAC continues to provide quality programs to the Rutherford County community. The RCAC major programs are based on the organization’s Five Point Thrust.
