Dr. Della Williams is a board-certified neurologist who worked in Danville for 20 years operating a sleep clinic before she went to practice in Dubai where she and her late husband, Dr. Jon Dorman, stayed for 10 years. When they returned home they decided to do something with the goats on the farm (160 undulating acres just 6 miles south of Danville, VA and 44 miles north of Greensboro, NC). Della and her husband drove across the country, learning from experts in cheese making (including at CalPoly [California Polytechnic State University]) and were granted a license as a Farmstead Cheese Maker in June of 2004. The delicious and varied artisan soft and aged hard cheeses reflect the terroir of the Piedmont and can be found in local markets such as Ridge Farm on Westover Drive and Midtown Market on Chambers Street in Danville, Virgina, as well as several markets in North Carolina. Sleepy Goat Farm produces between 1,000 and 3,000 pounds of the dairy product every year.
