Daniel D. Hicks

Daniel Hicks is a business owner, professional journalist, digital publisher, macro (ESG) economist, network television producer, world traveler and faculty member with the schools of business administration and communication at the University of Miami.

 

From 1988-2009, Daniel produced and managed press coverage from Los Angeles for NBC News, NBC Today, NBC Newschannel, MSNBC and CNBC. He received Emmy nominations for breaking news in 1997 (Heaven's Gate cult tragedy) and 2004 (state funeral of former President Ronald Reagan). In 1998, he covered German national elections from Berlin as an MSNBC correspondent in cooperation with German broadcaster ZDF-TV and the Arthur F. Burns Foundation in Washington, D.C.

 

In 2005, Daniel created and produced CNBC's first corporate sustainability series sponsored by Toyota Motors, British Petroleum and former NBC Universal parent General Electric.

 

During the 1990s, Daniel spent almost four years in Tokyo writing and editing for the English edition of Japan’s largest daily newspaper, The Yomiuri Shimbun. In 2000, UC Berkeley hired Daniel as a senior analyst to provide recommendations for modernizing research communications at the flagship university. The report became a blueprint for the entire UC system and furthered the development of UC TV.

 

Daniel graduated with a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York City. He holds a bachelor's degree in political economy and a certificate in financial accounting from UCLA. His extensive academic and leisure travels include Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, China, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, Egypt, Fiji, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Switzerland and Thailand.

 

Daniel relocated his management consulting business, Florida Sustainability Partners, to Miami in 2011. FLSP provides clients with global expertise through three distinct yet integrated divisions: media, finance and talent. Clients include the Miami Business School, where Daniel currently teaches and leads a new school-wide sustainability initiative, and German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
